Geumni-dan-gil Street

A downtown Gyeongju commercial strip packed with cinemas, franchise shops, and restaurants — this is Geumni-dan-gil.

The name follows a naming trend that spread nationwide from Seoul's "Gyeongridan-gil," and the street is dense with cinemas like Lotte Cinema and Megabox alongside a wide range of franchise stores, restaurants, and clothing shops. Busking and street performances run frequently, giving the area an energy distinct from daytime sightseeing, and with a large public parking lot and comfortable lodging nearby, it has developed into a commercial district tailored to tourists.

It sits right next to Gyeongju landmarks like Bonghwangdae and Cheonmachong, and its central location within the tourist district makes it easy to reach from Singyeongju Station and the Gyeongju intercity bus terminal — a natural stop to weave into a route between heritage sites.

Honestly, though, being franchise-heavy, it can feel somewhat generic if you're expecting distinctly "Gyeongju" character, and it lacks the hanok-and-tiled-roof atmosphere of Hwangnidan-gil.

It's a good place to unwind with an ordinary dinner, café, or movie after a day walking among royal tombs and temples; hours vary by shop, so check ahead if visiting late.
