Bomun Tourist Complex

Gyeongju's largest resort district, built around Lake Bomun — this is Bomun Tourist Complex.

Set on the site of the old Myeonghwalsanseong fortress about 10km east of downtown Gyeongju, the entire area is designated a hot spring and special tourism zone, home to international-standard luxury hotels, condominiums, golf courses, and various water facilities. With roads, utilities, and telecommunications fully built out, the area is also being developed as a convention destination.

A lakeside path and a musical fountain make it a pleasant stop for a stroll even if you're not staying there, and while cherry trees grow throughout Gyeongju, the area around Lake Bomun is considered one of its finest cherry blossom spots come April, with blossoms filling every view and petals drifting like snow on windy days.

Honestly, though, for travelers here to see Silla-era heritage, this spot itself isn't a historical sight — it's better understood as Gyeongju's lodging and resort hub given its strong hotel-and-resort character.

Being just 15-20 minutes by car from Bulguksa, Seokguram, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and other core Gyeongju sights, it's widely used as a base for lodging while touring the rest of the city. Open at all times and free (individual facilities charge separately).
