Sujoo Literature Hall

Sujoo Literature Hall

📍 Bucheon

A literature museum honoring Sujoo Byun Yeong-ro, a poet of early modern Korean literature — this is Sujoo Literature Hall.

Byun Yeong-ro is best known for his resistance poem "Nongae," and was also a translator and journalist who lived through both the anguish and romance of a colonial-era intellectual. He was known in literary circles for his easygoing camaraderie with fellow writers over drinks, so the museum recreates "Eunseong Tavern," an old Jongno-district bar he used to frequent.

Opened in 2022 in Bucheon's Gogang-dong, the hall is modest in scale — a visit takes about 30 minutes to an hour — but its handwritten manuscripts of "Nongae," a life timeline, and recreated exhibits give a dense taste of one scene from Korea's modern literary history.

Tucked into a quiet residential area, it doesn't draw large crowds, which actually makes it a good pick for visitors who'd rather enjoy the exhibits in peace.

Hours are Tue-Sun 09:30-18:00 (last entry 17:00), closed Mondays and national holidays, with free admission.
