Zenjoji Temple

Zenjoji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Zenjoji was founded about a thousand years ago by Heiso, a monk of Todaiji. Its treasure house holds a number of cultural properties, among them a standing eleven-headed Kannon and standing figures of the Nikko and Gakko bodhisattvas. Behind the main hall is an enormous mural, the Zenjoji Heisei Great Nirvana painting, made to mark the temple's thousandth year.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
