Waratenjingu

Wara Tenjingu began as the tutelary shrine of the Kitayama district, originally sited on Kitayama Tenjin hill; it was moved here when Ashikaga Yoshimitsu built his Kitayama estate. It is known for safe childbirth and for granting children, and carries an unusual custom: inside the amulet given to expectant mothers is a piece of straw, and whether or not it has a node is said to tell the sex of the child to come. The auxiliary Rokusho Shrine in the grounds can be read as 'overcoming what is difficult,' and is venerated accordingly for victory, success, good fortune and passing examinations.
