Toyokunijinja Shrine

Toyokunijinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Toyokuni Shrine enshrines Toyotomi Hideyoshi, which is why the Tokugawa shogunate had it pulled down. The present buildings date from 1880 — all except the Chinese-style gate, which survives from Fushimi Castle. At the back of the grounds a treasure house displays objects associated with Hideyoshi.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
