Shounji on Mount Tensoku venerates a pair of 300-year-old cypresses as sacred trees of long life. The Zen master Tensoku, who retired here in 1669, is said to have relieved the troubles of the local people. Villagers still call the temple Tensoku-san, and it is held to be effective against headaches and against the decline of the mind.
