📍 Kyoto

Taneji is the 30th site of the Saigoku Yakushi pilgrimage. It is said to have been founded by Prince Maroko, third son of Emperor Yomei and half-brother of Prince Shotoku, and carries with it the legend of the demon-slaying. Its treasure house holds Nio guardian figures among the largest in Japan, along with many other cultural properties.
