Takiguchidera Temple

Takiguchidera Temple

📍 Kyoto

Takiguchidera is the setting of the doomed love between Takiguchi Nyudo Tokiyori, a retainer of Taira no Shigemori, and Yokobue, lady-in-waiting to Kenreimon-in. Wooden figures of the two stand side by side in the main hall, and along the approach a stone inscribed with Yokobue's poem stands quietly. The area around the grounds is said to have held Ojo-in in the Heian period, which counted both Takiguchidera and Gioji among its sub-temples.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
