Shunkoji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Minami-Yamashiro village belonged culturally to the Nara sphere, and temples there still carry that influence strongly. Shunkoji is one of them: its principal image, a standing wooden Yakushi Nyorai, descends from the Yakushi at Gangoji, the defining example of the Nara manner. Carved from a single block of nutmeg-yew, it is designated an Important Cultural Property.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
