Shuchi Castle was built in the Nanboku-cho period by Shuchi Kagemitsu. It fell during Akechi Mitsuhide's invasion of Tanba in 1579 and was subsequently rebuilt by him. Stone walls, cut ditches and other features survive in good condition. The site sits on a summit north of the Koto Falls, commanding a fine view over what was the gateway to Kyotanba.
