Shizushi Limestone Cave Park pairs cave exploration with the outdoors. The cave itself is the only limestone cave in Kyoto Prefecture, discovered in 1927: a 52.5-metre vertical shaft in four sections, twisting as it drops, with a sharp change in elevation from top to bottom. At its widest it opens to about 4 metres across and 8 metres high. Above ground the park has ten tent sites and two bungalows for camping, plus birdwatching, hiking trails and outdoor play including a 20-metre giant slide. Check ahead that the park is open before making the trip.
