Shitsumihachimangu

Shitsumi Hachimangu is venerated as the local tutelary shrine. Its float festival — often called a miniature version of Kyoto's Gion Festival, and designated an intangible folk cultural property of the prefecture — is held here on a Sunday in late October each year. Four pulled floats, hung with tapestries depicting tigers, dragons, celestial maidens and lions, are brought out along with four stalls, and the procession moves slowly up the 400-metre approach from the front of the shrine to the main hall to the sound of flute and drum, in the old manner throughout.
