Shisekishodokangaiseki

📍 Kyoto

This is a composite site where several periods overlap: a small burial mound of the 5th century, the remains of a settlement from the late 6th into the 7th century, and the regularly laid out groups of large post-in-ground buildings of a provincial government office from the 7th century onward. Part of the office complex has been reconstructed, and the site can be visited as a historic park.

📸 Best photo spotStep back a bit so the whole mound fits in frame — that best conveys its scale.
