Shiotani Kofun Park occupies a low hill and comprises twelve burial mounds ranging from 8 to 15.5 metres across. In August 1989 the largest of them, Mound 5, yielded two figurative haniwa in the form of shrine maidens — rare finds by any national standard — and the site drew sudden attention. It's an easy place to come across ancient history at close range. Kofun workshops are also run at the adjoining Kyotanba Ajimu-no-Sato facility.
