Shakuoji is said to have been founded in 949 by the priest Kuya. Its treasure is a lacquered table bearing a dedication dated 1432, which stands before the principal image: about 102.7 centimetres high and 151 centimetres wide. The carving worked into it is celebrated as a fine example of a Muromachi-period sutra table in the Zen style, and it is designated an Important Cultural Property.
