Saikoji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Saikoji is said to have been founded in 756 and once flourished as a branch temple of Jingoji at Takao. The rokusai nenbutsu dance offered here each 16 August is an intangible folk cultural property of Kyoto Prefecture. The dragon transom carved by Nakai Gonji, the noted Tanba sculptor, is worth seeing in its own right.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
