Otowanotaki

The Otowa Falls are said to be the purest spring in Kyoto, and it was from them that the temple took the name Kiyomizu — clear water — in 810. The water emerges in three separate streams below the cliff beneath the inner hall's platform, down the stone steps on the east side of the main hall. It has long been famed as a sacred water effective against all illness, called the golden water and the water of long life, prized both for purifying body and mind and as a noted water for brewing tea.
