Oharaonsen

The area around Jakko-in in Ohara, where Kenreimon-in retired to the religious life, is known as the village of perilla. The purple of that plant and the purple of Kyoto's traditional dyes together gave the local hot spring its name — Murasaki-no-yu, the purple bath. It opened in the summer of 2004. The water is a simple spring, hypotonic, mildly alkaline and cool, held to help with muscle and joint pain, frozen shoulder, impaired movement, haemorrhoids, chronic digestive complaints, poor circulation, fatigue and general wellbeing.
