Nenbutsuji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Nenbutsuji belongs to the Seizan Zenrinji branch of the Pure Land school. It has 1,200 years of history as the birthplace of Lady Myotoku, mother of Saicho, who founded Enryakuji on Mount Hiei. It is also venerated, regardless of denomination, as a place for memorial rites for children lost before birth. Its principal Amida image is cast in iron and kept hidden from view.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
