Myoshoji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Myoshoji on Mount Ono takes as its founder the poet Ono no Komachi, one of the Six Immortals of Heian verse. She is said to have died here at Ikaga, where the temple stands, and several traditions attach to the place, including the death poem she is said to have left. The temple preserves a seated figure of Komachi and her memorial tablet — and her posthumous Buddhist name became, unchanged, both the mountain name and the temple name.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
