Matsunoodera stands halfway up Mount Aoba, known as the Fuji of Wakasa, and is the 29th site of the Saigoku pilgrimage. It holds a number of cultural properties, among them the National Treasure painting of Fugen Enmei and a seated Amida Nyorai by the sculptor Kaikei; these are shown in the treasure hall for two months each in spring and autumn.
