Kyotoshirakusaichikurinkoen Park

📍 Kyoto

On the eastern hills of the Rakusai new town stands a facility devoted entirely to bamboo — rare anywhere in the world. It holds a bamboo museum, a children's play area, and an ecological garden planted with around 110 species of bamboo and sasa. Set into the garden are Dodobashi, the bridge where the Western and Eastern armies fought bitterly during the Onin War, and stone Buddhas that once formed part of the old Nijo Castle wall. Inside the museum are a reconstruction of Edison's bamboo-filament lamp, prized Kyoto bamboo, traditional bamboo crafts, and panels explaining the plant's history, culture and biology. Bamboo goods are shown and sold there too.
