Kusejinja Shrine

Kusejinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

The founding date of Kuse Shrine is unknown; it enshrines Yamato Takeru. Its main hall, an Important Cultural Property, is thought to have been built in the mid-Muromachi period: a vermilion-lacquered single-bay nagare-zukuri structure under a cypress-bark roof, with the upper parts of the columns and the joinery finished in full polychrome, giving it a distinctly showy exterior.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
