Kumanojinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Kumano Shrine is said to have been built on the summit of Mount Kabuto by Kawakami Masu, in celebration of his granddaughter — child of Tanbanomichinushi and Kawakami Masunoiratsume — becoming empress. The old district name Kumano is also said to derive from it. The Kabutoyama lookout here takes in Kumihama Bay and the Sea of Japan in a single view.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
