Kotohirajinja Shrine

Kotohira Shrine was established in the Edo period by Kyogoku Takamasa, seventh lord of the domain, who brought a divided spirit here from the Konpira shrine in Shikoku. It is said to be effective for household safety, success in study, business prosperity and marriage ties. Unusually for Japan, the guardian figures here are cats rather than lions — a nod to the crepe silk weaving on which Tango prospered.
