Koryuji Temple

Koryuji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Koryuji is the oldest temple in Yamashiro and the birthplace of Heian culture, and it keeps an unusually quiet air. What is enshrined here is the crowned Miroku Bosatsu seated in contemplation — the first object ever designated a National Treasure in Japan. With its right hand raised to its cheek and the faintest smile, it holds a mysterious beauty you could look at for hours.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
