Kitashinkyoji Temple

Kita Shinkyoji, in the Oyashiki area of Kaide, is a Nichiren temple standing on the site of the Nagaokakyo imperial palace. In the Edo period it housed a danrin, a seminary for monks, where more than a hundred student priests are said to have lived and studied together. The present main hall corresponds to the lecture hall of that time, and as a rare building preserving the character of a danrin it is a registered cultural property of Kyoto Prefecture.
