Kenryuzankonji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Kenryuzan Kounji is the family temple of Inaba Norimichi, lord of Fukuchiyama domain, who took his own life during the Inaba disturbance of 1648. It is closely associated with the priest Kaiten — a distant relative of the Inaba and reckoned among the ten great figures of Myoshinji Rinzai — and is the seventh site of the Amata district Saigoku pilgrimage. Sutra copying, dharma talks and zazen require advance booking; confirm numbers and times when you reserve.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
