Kasugajinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Kasuga Shrine is said to be connected with the Kasuga Shrine in Nara, tutelary shrine of the Fujiwara clan. It was founded in the Heian period and rebuilt in 1152. Its main hall, an Important Cultural Property, is a small single-bay nagare-zukuri structure under a cypress-bark roof — modest in size, but valuable for the way its frog-leg strut carving and tile patterns show the character of the period.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
