Kajuji Temple

Kajuji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Kajuji is said to have been founded by Emperor Daigo to pray for the repose of his mother. Its garden, laid out around the Himuro pond, holds a courtly Heian atmosphere. Red and white water lilies float on the surface while purple rabbitear iris flowers along the bank, and the effect changes handsomely with each season. Its principal image is a thousand-armed Kannon, and people come to pray here for all manner of things.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
