Kaijusenji Temple
📍 KyotoKaijusenji is said to have begun in 735, when Emperor Shomu ordered the priest Roben to build a temple here to pray for the safe completion of the Great Buddha. It later burned and was revived in the Kamakura period by the priest Gedatsu. Its five-storey pagoda is a masterpiece of Kamakura architecture and a National Treasure. The standing eleven-headed Kannon, the Monju hall, a colour-on-silk Lotus mandala and the temple's documentary archive are all Important Cultural Properties.
