Joruriji is also called Kutaiji — the nine-body temple — because nine seated Amida Nyorai stand in a row in its main hall. The main hall, the three-storey pagoda, the nine Amida figures and the standing Four Heavenly Kings all date from the Heian period, and all are designated National Treasures.
