Imamiyajinja Shrine

Imamiyajinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Imamiya Shrine has long been venerated for quelling epidemics. Through the tower gate stands the worship hall, with the main shrine and the auxiliary plague shrine behind it, and on the west side smaller shrines including Orihime-sha — dedicated to the founding deity of Nishijin weaving — and an Inari shrine. The Yasurai festival, held on the second Sunday of April each year, is famous as one of the three strange festivals of Kyoto.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
