Hojuji Temple

Hojuji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Hojuji is a temple you come to in order to do something, not only to look. Its sutra-copying sessions run through a short service, a dharma talk, the copying itself and a simple meal at the end. On Fudo days there is a goma fire rite followed by a talk, taking about an hour. Sutra copying is available at any time between 9am and 3pm, takes an hour to an hour and a half, and is accepted daily from a single person upward. Zazen runs in the same hours for around an hour, but needs a group of five or more and a reservation in advance.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
