Hachimanjinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Hachiman Shrine enshrines Emperor Ojin. The stone lantern in its grounds is designated an Important Cultural Property: 2.5 metres tall, set on an octagonal base, with the section beneath the finial drawn out so that the whole takes on a mushroom shape. It is a leading example of the Tango-style lantern of the Nanboku-cho period. People come here to pray for safe childbirth.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
