Fukuchiyamashichisuikinenkan Memorial Museum

The Fukuchiyama Flood Control Museum exists to pass on the history of floods and flood defence in the city, and to think through what protection should look like from here. The building itself is the exhibit: a townhouse of 1880 built with a distinctive structure for coping with floodwater, restored so that its original exterior and room layout survive. Inside, panels and documents trace the record of floods and flood control and the practical ingenuity earlier residents brought to living with them. Displays include the raised 'taka' platform used to lift belongings clear of rising water, an inundation model, and a marker showing water levels reached.
