Enjoji is known locally as the Kannon of Hashiki. It is an old foundation, established in 717 by Subhakarasimha, a monk from India. It received an imperial dedication from Emperor Kanmu, and Kobo Daishi gave it its mountain name. Its treasure, a thousand-armed Kannon, is not shown publicly; it and the hokyointo pagoda are both national Important Cultural Properties.
