Engishikinaishasagurijinja Shrine

Saguri Shrine appears in the Engishiki register of Heian-era shrines. Its main hall, an Important Cultural Property, came through restoration work completed in October 1981 and emerged in full polychrome again. In 1988 a ridge tag and the old side-panel transom — finely carved with squirrels and grapevines — were added to the designation. In April 2014 the worship hall, main gate, sacred fence and stone torii were listed as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties, and in 2019 the fence was restored to its late-Edo form. Camphor trees and black camellia, protected as town natural monuments, grow thickly across the wide grounds, and the place holds a real stillness.
