Chorakuji Temple

Chorakuji Temple

📍 Kyoto

Chorakuji is closely tied to Kenreimon-in. On the hillside grounds are the main hall and belfry, and during the special spring exhibition the temple's treasures are shown — among them a Buddhist banner she made from the robes of her son, the child emperor Antoku. The Hotei figure inside the hall is one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Kyoto. On 3 and 4 May, at 2pm and 4pm, The Tale of the Heike is recited here to the Chikuzen biwa.

📸 Best photo spotVisit early morning or late afternoon when it's less crowded, for a clearer shot of the gate and grounds.
