Aramijinja Shrine

Aramijinja Shrine

📍 Kyoto

Arami Shrine originally stood in the hills of Goshagatani and was moved to its present site in the Muromachi period; since then it has been venerated as the tutelary shrine of the old village of Tononosho. The main hall, an Important Cultural Property, was built in 1604, and its detailing is distinctive — the young-leaf carving on the nose-pieces in particular.

📸 Best photo spotShoot straight through the torii gate to capture the shrine's signature red color and sense of depth.
