Yonsei University Main Gate & Baekyang-ro

Yonsei University's history traces back to Gwanghyewon, Korea's first Western-style hospital, founded in 1885. The modern university took shape in 1957, when Yonhee College merged with Severance Union Medical College.

Baekyang-ro, the road connecting the main gate to the main building, was transformed by the "Baekyang-ro Reinvention Project" (2013-2015). The project moved vehicle traffic underground, creating roughly 58,742 sqm of new underground space for parking and cultural/amenity facilities, while the surface became a car-free, pedestrian-only green boulevard.

Around campus, you'll find a statue of founder Horace Grant Underwood and buildings named after him, including Underwood Hall.
