United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea

The world's only United Nations military cemetery — this is the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea.

In January 1951, the year after the Korean War broke out, UN Forces Command established this cemetery to bury the fallen. Remains of UN soldiers temporarily buried in Kaesong, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, and elsewhere were transferred here for permanent interment. In November 1955, South Korea's National Assembly resolved to permanently donate this land to the UN in gratitude for the sacrifice of UN forces, and that December, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution to permanently manage the cemetery.

Today, a plaza lined with the flags of participating nations and immaculately kept burial grounds welcome visitors. Rather than offering spectacle, it's a quiet space for reflection — a place to walk and remember those who sacrificed their lives for freedom and peace.

Open year-round, free admission, parking available. Hours are 09:00-18:00 in summer (May-Sep) and 09:00-17:00 in winter (Oct-Apr).
