Tomb of Queen Heo Hwang-ok

Not far from the Tomb of King Suro lies the tomb of his queen, Heo Hwang-ok.

According to legend, Heo Hwang-ok was originally a princess of Ayuta in India who, following a heavenly command, sailed across the sea at age 16 to become King Suro's queen. Unlike the king's tomb, hers was built on a hill rather than flat ground — and stone remains said to be from a pagoda she brought from India still sit in front of the tomb, an intriguing physical trace that echoes the legend.

At the entrance stand the main gate, Gunammun, and a red spiked gate; to the right sits Sungbojae, once used to prepare for ancestral rites. Nearby is the Gusan-dong tomb cluster, built in a stone-chamber style, offering an easy comparison of different Gaya-era burial styles if you visit both.
