Samcheong-dong Street

A gentle walking street running along Gyeongbokgung's eastern wall, lined with hanok-turned galleries, cafes, traditional teahouses, and craft shops. Since the late 1990s it has ranked among Seoul's most elegant streets.

A short detour into the side alleys leads to Bukchon Hanok Village, and heading up reaches Samcheong Park and nature. Many popular cafes preserve the hanok's original narrow layout, so seating is limited and weekend waits of 30 minutes or more are common.

Honest tips: visiting around 10 to 11 a.m. lets you walk comparatively uncrowded — after 2 p.m. cafe waits grow long. If crowds are a concern, aim for a weekday. The route flows naturally if you leave Gyeongbokgung along the eastern wall, and it pairs well with Insadong and Bukchon for a full day. Five minutes on foot from Anguk station; parking is very difficult, so use transit.

📸 Best photo spotLooking back downhill from partway up the slope frames the hanok rooflines and street trees in one gentle curve. Late October to early November, when the ginkgo trees turn gold, is peak season for photos.
