Nodeul Island

Nodeul Island

📍 Seoul

An artificial island in the middle of a Han River bridge, originally slated for apartments, that fell through and was reborn in 2019 as a cultural complex. Set mid-span on the Hangang Bridge, its sunsets and night views are especially beautiful.

It holds a live club, an independent bookstore, a gallery, a lawn plaza, and cafes, with concerts, flea markets, and exhibitions on weekends. Reachable only on foot across the bridge, it is a car-free island, and a walk above the Han is itself unusual.

Honest tips: access is slightly involved — you climb the south-side pedestrian path of the bridge and walk about ten minutes. Cars cannot enter and nearby parking is tight. About ten minutes on foot from Nodeul station. Midday the river wind is strong and shade is sparse, so it gets hot; sunset is the most romantic time. Pair it with a Han River park stroll, and it is a fine pick for a quieter night-view spot.

ℹ️ Travel infoIsland always open, free (performances/exhibits may be separate). Nodeul Station (Line 9) Exit 2, 10-min walk (enter via the Hangang Bridge footpath).
📸 Best photo spotThe rooftop of Nodeul Seoga library, framing the Han River bridges with the sunset, is a lesser-known hidden spot.
