Seoul's city wall was built in 1396 in the early Joseon period, and a section of it survives along Naksan — Naksan Park is one of the few places where you can walk atop the wall while looking down on the city. The wall path flows naturally into the Ihwa Mural Village, forming one of Seoul's most popular walking routes.
Naksan itself is not high (about 125 m), but its position overlooking downtown means the summit delivers a sweeping night view. The mountain was the eastern defensive axis of Joseon-era Seoul.
Honest tips: night is far better than day — the city lights are the real draw. Some stretches have sparse lighting and little foot traffic late, so walking with company is safer than alone. Slopes and steps mean comfortable shoes are a must. Fifteen minutes from Hyehwa station; for a long wall walk, the full Seoul City Wall course from the East Gate to Dongdaemun is also recommended.
