Kitazawahachimanjinja Shrine

Said to have been established during the Bunmei era (1469–87) of the mid-Muromachi period as the guardian deity of Setagaya's northern reaches, invited here by the Kira family who then held Setagaya as their domain. Its splendor earned it the title 'the finest Hachimangu among Setagaya's seven marshes and eight shrines,' drawing lasting reverence. At the autumn grand festival, twenty portable shrines converge on the grounds for a spectacular sight, and on clear winter days Mount Fuji is visible from here.
