Hasegawamachikobijutsukan Museum of Art

Along the shopping street leading from Sakura-shinmachi Station on the Den-en-toshi Line, figures of the manga character Sazae-san appear everywhere, and at the end of Sazae-san Street stands the Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum. Serialized in newspapers from 1946, 'Sazae-san' brilliantly captured ordinary postwar Japanese family life, and its creator Hasegawa Machiko is regarded as Japan's first female manga artist. The museum displays original artwork from the manga she drew during her 40 years living in this neighborhood, alongside the art collection she assembled over the same period — including works by Chagall, Higashiyama Kaii, and Hirayama Ikuo.
