Hanegikoen Park

Setagaya's famous plum-blossom spot, known for the Plum Festival held every February. It was once called 'Rokurojiyama' after a blacksmith named Rokuroji who lived here, and later 'Nezuyama' when Kaichiro Nezu, founder of Tobu Railway, owned the land. Today's splendid plum grove began with just 55 trees, planted in the war-ravaged park by the 55 ward assembly members elected in 1967. It now numbers over 650 trees, filling the sunlit slope with varied colors and fragrances each plum season. The park also has an adventure playground where children play freely at their own responsibility.
